Body piercing, a form of body modification, is the practice of puncturing or cutting a part of the human body, creating an opening in which jewellery may be worn. Piercing is very much adopted by the youth and is considered to be trendy. It has made its way to different kinds of piercings namely ear piercing, nose piercing, tongue and lip piercing and women often get their naval and genital pierced. The reasons for piercing or not piercing are varied. Some people pierce for religious or spiritual reasons, while others pierce for self-expression, for aesthetic value, for sexual pleasure, to conform to their culture or to rebel against it. Some forms of piercing remain controversial, particularly when applied to youth.

The jewellery worn on piercing has become the fashion statement and the designs used is of equal importance. Body piercing jewellery can be made with any material. It may be silver, gold, platinum or any cheap metal. The ornaments are set with colour beads, diamonds, coloured gemstones or semi-precious stones. But it is advised that all the material should be sterilized because it is worn through the skin

Body art..a reflection of culture and lifestyle

Body painting is a form of body art, and has probably been around since the beginning of civilization. In almost every tribalism culture, body painting was performed during ceremonies or merely just for the beauty of it. Back then they used clay and other natural pigments .unlike tattoos body painting is temporary painted on to the human skin and it last for few hours. Body painting can also be referred to as temporary tattoos.

Body painting was very common used in 12th and mid of 14th century by religious practitioners. This is an example portraying gothic culture. Traditionally body painting survives in primitive and indigenous tribal cultures. Body painting used clay and other natural pigments; mehendi a form of non permanent body painting uses henna dyes.
Since the 1960's, body painting emerged as an actual art form. However, there is the never-ending discussion about its social acceptability because body painting practically always involves nudity
.

There has been a revival of body decoration in the western society. These modern forms of body painting include many sensationalist and exhibitionist forms. The types of pigments and body paints used vary from region to region. Clay body paints were among the most common types- as was henna, a reddish brown pigment, in South America tribal used another charcoal another black pigment called huito; an orange dye from fruit seed. Body painting is used as a medium to exhibit the expressions of people. Many people express their thoughts, aggression, beliefs through body art, conveying their messages through visual medium.

Body painting has evolved its space in the commercial arena. Many artists work professionally as the body painters in the television commercials and film arena especially in science fictions with more elaborate alien creations being body painted. Still advertising also use body painting with body painted look being published in magzines.

Bodyart: An expression of the youth

Body art, A type of art in which the artist uses his or her own body as the medium; it is closely related to Conceptual art and Performance art, and flourished mainly at the same time that these forms of expression were at their peak—the late 1960s and 1970s (there was something of a revival in the 1990s). Sometimes works of Body art are carried out in private and communicated by means of photographs or films; sometimes the execution of the ‘piece’ is public. Body art is often playful in spirit, but several leading exponents have been concerned with self-inflicted pain or ritualistic acts of endurance.

It has been found as the most popular forms of arts in the prevailing youth culture. Humans use it as a way to communicate powerful messages. when looking from anthropologist's perspective, it seems that body art provides for humans to relate to their experiences and convey expressions in an artistic form through their physical body. This art is apparent in forms of body tattoos, painting or scars , temporary decorations such makeup, clothing, hairstyles reflecting upon an individuals values, beliefs, attitude fashion or lifestyle defining expressions.
If someone doesn’t want to commit to permanent body art, there are ways of translating the idea through make-up.” It has generally reached out to the masses and have become very vogue centric. There is a previlege of accessing to both permanent and temporarily body art which stays for few days and you can always avail to another with the changing trend.
